Consul General You Wenze said the aim is to enhance access to state-of-the-art equipment and to improve the lives of communities across the country, with a specific focus on education in rural areas.

He said having access to world-class facilities is a crucial first step in encouraging children to lead healthier and more focused lives.

“It is not an exaggeration to say that education plays a most important role to improve people's lives, promote all-round development and social progress. Education makes the country prosperous and education makes the country strong. Just like South Africa, China, from the state leaders to the general public, attaches great importance to education. Investment in education is huge,” he said.

“Although the donated equipment today may not be sufficient, it is proof of the heart-to-heart connection between the Chinese and South African people, a true reflection of friendship between China and South Africa.

“We hope that the donated equipment will be of help to improve the overall teaching and studying conditions, to provide more alternative opportunities for students to fulfil the dream of going ‘from zero to hero’,” he said.
