School Shoe Drive a huge success thanks to the ‘power of youth’

The project was launched under the umbrella of the Social Compact legacy impactful programme, the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign (QLTC)

The Unamandla Isagoentle Foundation, is led by 15-year-old Unamandla Vilakazi (Miss Teen Mundial South Africa 2023, and supported by young talents like 15-year-old author Mosimanegape Leeuw, and artist Monwabisi Banjiwe of Amandla Dança Teatro.

Bangiwe showcased the power of youth in driving positive change through art during the event.

It was attended by the Acting Head of Department, Dr Michelle Ishmail and other officials from the department and other stakeholders.

In a remarkable display of community solidarity, the School Shoe Drive has successfully collected 400 pairs of school shoes, which will be distributed to 16 schools in the Frances Baard District.

Vilakazi, who spoke passionately at the event, emphasized that every child deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams, regardless of their background.

She explained that this initiative does not only provide practical support, but also instils hope and determination in learners and students, empowering them to strive for success.

“The launch of the School Shoe Drive marks a significant milestone in the journey towards achieving quality education for all,” she said.
