Muratie sunset, full moon hike

Take a picnic and enjoy the views from the top. Sunset is expected at 6.13pm and moonrise at 5.03pm.

After sunset, the trail adventure continues in the forest as you hike back with your headlight underneath the full moon.

There are signs along the singletrack route (with more than 200 steps) that is approximately 3.5km total, and it can take you up to 45 minutes to reach the picnic spot, so do not arrive later than 6.30pm to ensure that you have the full experience.

Only 20-30 minutes to walk back to the Trail Centre at Muratie, depending on your pace of course.

Bring a blanket to sit on while you wait for the sunset and moon rise under the watchful eye of the Simonsberg mountain.

A new look-out point has been created in this year in January (past Gilloolys) where you can enjoy your own packed picnic and wine from Muratie.

Snacks and drinks will be sold at the Trail Centre where you collect you permit on arrival. A coffee station will be open here...
