Chippa focus on league after losing out on Nedbank CupChilli Boys face Pirates with just four games left to chase points

These are testing times for Chippa co-coaches Kwanele Kopo and Thabo September, who came into the team midway through the season with only one goal in mind — to save the team’s status

Before being hit with several injuries and suspension, the side enjoyed a four-match winning streak which somehow elevated their goal to a possible top-eight finish.

But their reign of success in the league came to a standstill after losing 2-1 to AmaZulu.

From there, they went on to lose by the same margin to Swallows and that defeat was followed by a 3-1 setback to Pirates in the Nedbank Cup semifinal at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at weekend.

The two league defeats have left the Chilli Boys in 10th position in the standings with 32 points from 26 matches.

Now that they are out of the running in the cup competition, Chippa will be on the chase to get as many points as they can from the remaining Premier Soccer League matches to stay clear of the danger zone.

After losing to the Buccaneers at the weekend, Kopo said: “It’s difficult that we are going to face Pirates again on Wednesday.

“We have to regroup and reflect and plan for the game.
