By means of this bo ok, Jeannie va n Wyk made a signicant contr ibution
to legal wr iting in South Afr ica. Although a rst edition thereof appeared i n
1999, the present book is largely a new work. It is very well written, easi ly
understanda ble, and will be usefu l to a wide variety of readers.
Planning law involves land. Law is not the only discipli ne involved in the
planning process. Regiona l and town planners, e nvironmentalist s, engineers,
historians, ent repreneurs, com munities and a wide a rray of government
department s and state enterprises all have a role to play. Many disciplines are
involved. The author’s focus is on legal issues, without involving herself in
non-legal topics which fall within the spher es of other disciplines. Nonetheless,
non-lawyers will benet f rom the work, since legal requirements pervade
many other aspects of the plan ning process.
