BIENNIAL CONFERENCE OF
THE ECONOMIC SOCIETY OF SOUTH AFRICA
30 AUGUST–1 SEPTEMBER 2017,
RHODES UNIVERSITY, GRAHAMSTOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
The Economic Society of South Africa and the Department of Economics and Economic
History at Rhodes University are honoured to invite submissions for the Society’s bien-
nial conference to be hosted by Rhodes University from the 30th August to the 1st of
September 2017. Papers are invited across all fields of economics, including, but not lim-
ited to the following: macroeconomics, growth, development and poverty, monetary eco-
nomics and policy, industrial organisation, international trade and finance, finance,
labour, transport, health, environmental and resource economics, fiscal policy and public
economics, political economy, economic history and methodology.

14 November 2016: Submissions open
19 May 2017: Submissions close
2 June 2017: Feedback to prospective presenters
23 June 2017: Registration closes for speakers (and end of early registration)
19 August 2017: Conference papers submitted in pdf format
30 August–1 September 2017: Conference
2. Arrangements for Submissions
Submissions have to be made electronically at the conference website: http://www.2017.
essa.org.za/
The conference academic committee will evaluate all submissions with the help of
peer reviews.
A maximum of two submissions per presenter will be accepted.
Information required from every submission:
Author(s) name and title.
Affiliation
Paper title
Text (the word limit is 300) with clear indication of the research question and method used
JEL code(s) for the paper
Email address of the corresponding author
