Call for papers
The Economic Society of South Africa i s honoured to invite submissions for the Society’s
biennial conference from 3-5 September 2019. Papers are invited across all fields of
economics
Arrangements for submissions. Abstract s are to be submitted via the ESSA conference
website. Abstracts are limited to 300 words and should include a clear indication of the
research question and method used, the preliminary results a nd the contribution to the
field. The conference academic committee will evaluate all submissions with the help of
peer reviewers. A maximum of two submissions per presenter will be accepted.

1 March 2019 Submissions open
7 June 2019 Submissions close (extended deadline)
12 July 2019 Feedback to prospective presenters
26 July 2019 Registration closes for speakers
End of early registration
16 August 2019 Conference papers submitted in pdf format
3-5 September 2019 Conference
Keynote speakers at the conference are:
James Robinson
James Robinson is the Reverend Dr. Richard L. Pearson Professor of Global Conf lict
Studies and University Professor at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University
of Chicago and Institute Director of The Pearson Institute for the Study and Resolution
of Global Conflicts. He studied economics at the London School of Economics, the
University of Warwick and Yale University. He previously taught in the Depar tment
of Economics at the University of Melbourne, the Department of Economics at the
South African Journal
of Economics
