It is difcult t o review a book written by a former student whom you have

known and me ntored for many years and who has become a good f riend.

It is even more difcult when he thanks you personally in his foreword to

a magnum op us on a subject which has, over the yea rs, been one of your

own pet a cademic interests. However, when I was requested by the editor of

this journal t o review Professor Visser’s book on u njustied enr ichment, I

accepted the mand ate as an honour and privilege.

Needless to say the author has, over a considerable period of time, dur-

ing which he achieved national and internat ional recognition as an expert

on unjustied enr ichment, put considerable effort into preparing what will

doubtlessly become regarded as one of the foremost works on a complex and

difcult topic. This is obvious from a mere glance at the list of contents of the
